Step 1 : The bag's base

This pattern is worked in the round, starting with the bottom of the bag, then working up to form the body.

Row 1

In a magic ring: crochet 2 dc, 2 sc. Repeat 6 times in total. Close the round with 1 sc in the first dc, then 1 additional sc to place yourself in the first 2-sc space. → You get 6 groups of 2 double crochet, separated by 6 spaces. It is in these spaces that you will work in the next round.

Row 2

In the space where you are: single crochet 3 times (they replace the first double crochet), 1 double crochet, 2 single crochet, 2 double crochet; all in the same space. Then, in each of the next 5 spaces: 2 double crochet, 2 single crochet, 2 double crochet. Close the row with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd single crochet of the beginning of the row, then 1 slip stitch to join the next space. → Each space in row 1 therefore holds two groups of double crochet separated by 2 single crochet: these are the increases that allow the base to widen.

The rest of this step is in the full pattern.
